Zocalo’s high-energy team needs an experienced customer service person or plant aficionado who is keen to do everything from taking care of indoor and outdoor plants, planting containers, helping customers with plant questions and overall care of the greenhouse. Truly a highly varied position in a fun, busy, urban environment. Zocalo is a growing plant and flower gallery nestled in Edmonton’s Little Italy.


Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Plant care (e.g., watering, deadheading, pest control)
  • Assisting customers with plant and garden questions
  • Overall maintenance and cleanliness of the greenhouse, yard and storage areas
  • Plant arrangements and custom orders
  • Provide friendly, helpful customer service, develop and foster relationships with
    customers


Experience is preferred, but training is provided. A full-time position, but would consider a part-time position for the right applicant. No evening work, but must be able to work weekends. Salary, bonuses and benefits commensurate with experience.

DIGITAL & ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP

As an energetic, industrious, and independent worker, you’re needed for a full-time Marketing and Digital Communications Internship position with our growing, funky lifestyle/decor store and greenhouse with a coffee bar, located near downtown Edmonton. An exciting opportunity, this position promises growth and challenges as an integral part of a lively and creative team. Ideally, the internship position would grow to a permanent, year-round position.

Specific skills include, but are not limited to: organizational skills and attention to detail, demonstrated customer service and people skills, excellent computer skills (website development, social media marketing, Analytics, SEO), ability to communicate effectively (especially writing), enthusiasm for promoting business on social platforms, Google Ads and ability to work well with a diverse team.

The ideal candidate will have training and work experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. Further, website development skills on various e-commerce platforms (specifically Lightspeed e-com) and Google Analytics experience.

While IT and computer skills are vitally important in this role, an ability to think creatively and artistically, as well as get along with people, are also requirements. Writing, design, videography and photography skills are an asset, but not required. An understanding of Lightspeed Retail/e-com, horticulture, plants, flowers and cafe culture is also an asset.

You would be responsible for working with the team on creating social media marketing plans and implementation, online customer care and sales support, website maintenance and updates, computer and network care, developing new strategies for e-com marketing, Google Analytics and website enhancements for improved marketing and operations. In addition, the intern will work on overall IT solutions related to data security, file sharing and network maintenance.

Full-time position. Weekend availability required, but very few evenings.

This internship requires that you are:

  • between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the internship;
  • have recently (within one year prior to the start of the internship) are a student;
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
